Kids get so much stuff for birthdays and Christmas. Every. Single. Year. And you know that means a lot of it will end up in the bin before the next one rolls around. So why not pick a gift which has been made with the environment in mind, as well as its little recipients? From robust chunky vehicles made from recycled plastic, to fail-safe eco wooden toys, you can find something green and gorgeous to give any baby, toddler or child.

1. GIVE BRANDS THAT GIVE BACK

KIDLY is always keen to promote brands give back to the community, like tegu: for every one of their sets sold, at least one tree is planted as part of the Honduran reforestation programme. Kids get cool open-ended toys and the earth gets another lung. Hooray! Similarly, Best Years works hard to create opportunities for people in poor communities; allowing them to gain skills to provide for their families. (They also proclaim to be the first ever manufacturers of knitted dinosaurs in the world!)

2. AWESOME ORGANIC

Funky brand etiquette designs socks for kids that make you wish your feet were, like, half the size. One of their packs of colourful socks would be a great stocking filler at Christmas. ('cos everyone gets new ones for Christmas - them's the rules.) Cool Danish brand Fabelab makes gorgeous washcloths, muslins, dolls and soft furnishings, all with a lovely timeless whimsicality, and everything is made with ecological and natural materials.

3. RECYCLED GOODIES

We love it when a brand goes that step further in its design process, including picking materials really carefully. Green Toys makes its stuff from recycled plastic - mainly milk cartons. To date, they've used 24,000,000 cartons to make their toys, but not only waste-busting, they are some of the coolest toys for toddlers going. The recycling truck is one of our all-time heroes and a fail-safe birthday or Christmas gift.

4. WOODEN WONDERS

Hands up who loves wooden toys? Thought so. Not just great-looking but long-lasting and can easily become heirloom toys to pass down. Thai brand Plan Toys makes sustainability and child development their top priorities. Everything they create is made with wood from 'retired' rubber wood trees that no longer produce latex, or from 'Plan Wood', a composite of leftover sawdust. Next up, Grimm's are basically the holy grail of wooden toys. Their rainbow design is insta-famous, looking great on the toy shelf but offering endless open-ended playing opportunities for kids.

Still not sure what to get them? Pop us a message on live chat, we're here every day from 8am-10pm and will happily help you suss out the gift of their dreams. Just hit that purple button, bottom right.
