What’s Christmas without the trimmings? We're all about bringing the winter wonderland feeling home, with table decorations, window treatments and festive festoons that the whole family can enjoy. Lots of households also now kick off the excitement the night before with Christmas Eve boxes for the kids. (Many European countries actually do all their gifting on the 24th). We're not saying you need to - most kids get more than enough at this time of year! - but it you are considering some extra treats to warm them up for the Big Day, look no further.

CHARACTERFUL DECOS

Every year we can't wait to see what Jellycat brings out and they never disappoint. Once again this Christmas they have another great line-up of cute and quirky Yuletide cuddlies. Pop them on the window ledge, matlepiece or in the middle of the table for some extra characterful cheer. Maileg and Fabelab also make adorable festive elves and helpers who you can station round the house to get everyone feeling full of seasonal goodwill.

STUFF THOSE STOCKINGS

A stocking is a instant Christmas warmer, whether you hang them in the window, on a door, or from your mantlepiece. Fabelab makes a whole range - so everyone in the family can have their own - plus they all have a lovely retro feel, like they've been in your family for generations.

AMPING UP ADVENT

Is there a kid alive that doesn't love an advent calendar? Coming down each morning knowing there's a surprising treat in store! Pick and choose from our selection of Meri Meri's charming calendars, or buy one of the fill-your-own wall hangers that you can personalise with your own little surprises. Either way, it's a brilliant way to build the seasonal excitement - and you can use it to bribe your child to behave and eat their breakfast every morning before they can open that day's window!

GETTING CRAFTY

Come Christmas Eve, we adults are usually prepping the veggies and wrapping the gifts, so why not keep the kids entertained with a craft sets. Or, if you like to make your own fun, buy some red or green felt and white fur and, with the application of some Copydex glue or some simple sewing, you can easily rustle up some little elf or Santa hats for their favourite toys and teddies.

BOXING CLEVER

If you're doing Christmas Eve boxes, why not DIY one for them to dip into throughout the day? We love the Aykasa crates, which are a huge fave with KIDLY customers all year round. Pick a mini or midi, pop in some boxfresh PJs, add some goodies like kitpas crayons and Petit Collage games. After the festivities are over, you can use it as versatile storage in their rooms. They're stackable and fold flat too. Bonus.

ALL THE CHILLS

If Christmas Eve in your house looks like one big chill fest, keep things extra snuggly with new sleepwear for the little ones. Pair them with some new slippers - what’s Christmas without new slippers?! For families doing the four gift rule - 'something they want / need / wear / read' - Christmas Eve is an ideal time to give them a great new book. For the youngest Abrams & Chronicle books are super and for older ones, we love the Little People Big Dreams series.

A GOOD NIGHT'S REST

With Christmas Day often kicking off before the birds have even started chirping, you could do with a good bed time routine, but it doesn't have to be without magic. First up, don't forget to leave out a mince pie and some milk for Santa, plus a carrot for Rudolph. A new little nightlight on their bedside is a nice touch too, so they can take a peak at their stocking loot when they wake up.

Noodoll's Silicone Nightlight

A Noodoll Silicone Nightlight is a fun pal to look forward to Christmas morning with.
